Seminar Report by Katia Falcón (Kyoto)

The fourth Kyoto-Seoul Joint Student Seminar in International Law was held on 14-15 December 2017, at Kyoto University, under the supervision of Professor Jaemin Lee (SNU) and Professor Shotaro Hamamoto (Kyoto). The Seminar consisted of 12 sessions, with 6 speakers from each university, where a variety of topics were discussed, including human rights law, investment law, environmental law, etc.

As usual, each session was of 20 minutes, followed by comments of a designated discussant from the other university. After these initial comments, general discussions started. It was a great opportunity for us as students to learn more about different aspects of international law, and share our points of views.

Due to the complexity of certain subjects, the guidance and advices provided by the professors were essential. The participants had different backgrounds and specialties which contributed to make the discussions very interesting and useful.

After each day, dinner was organized with the guests. In both occasions, dinners were held in traditional Japanese restaurants located in the centre of the city, where we enjoyed healthy and delicious food. Also, these instances are opportunities for the participants to get to know each other better, enjoying the possibility of a cultural exchange. It was quite nice to talk with SNU students not just about international law issues, but also about various things such as their plans for the future.

Since this is already the fourth meeting of this kind, it is evident that a strong friendship has developed between the students from SNU and Kyoto University. I am very grateful to the Professors and organizers who made this possible, and also to the SNU students, who were very cordial and friendly. Undoubtfully, the next seminar will be as fruitful and successful as this was.
