Seminar Report by Kie Abe (Kyoto)

PKUSTL-Kyoto Joint Student Seminar on International Law was held at the School of Transnational Law of Peking University in Shenzhen from May 20(Tue) to 21(Wed). This seminar were composed of 12 sessions in which 6 JD students of the STL and 6 students/research fellows of Kyoto University School of Law presented their original works-in-progress in 15minutes. In each session, after the presentation, the speaker got 5-minute comments from a participant of the other side. All presentations were clear, thought-provoking and of high quality. This seminar was particularly interesting due to the difference in the composition of participants. The STL is a practice-oriented school and all STL students, who wish to be practitioners in a near future, provided perspectives different from Kyoto University students, who aspire to pursue academic careers. All participants, including a number of STL faculty advisors, had serious and active discussions about each topic.

After the seminar, thanks to the invitation of STL students, we enjoyed Chinese special dinner “hot pot (火锅)”, delightfully talking about our university life, Chinese and Japanese cultures, and future career plans. For every participant, the fruit of these two days is beyond description. We extend many thanks to Professor Mark Feldman (PKUSTL) and Professor Shotaro Hamamoto (Kyoto University) for planning and conducting this seminar, and to STL staff members for their hearty hospitality and kind support. We’re looking forward to the next chance of such seminar again.

非常感谢老师和同学们,祝咱们的国际法研究成功!(I would like to express my gratitude to professors and all students, and hope our international law research will succeed.)
