○授業のテーマと目標
This course has two objectives:
-- to examine the institutional system and functions of the United Nations Organization; and
-- to develop techniques of presentation and discussion in English.

○授業内容の要旨と授業計画
Based primarily on a series of contemporary problems, the course introduces the student to the variety of roles played by the United Nations in ordering international relations. The course begins with an overview of the UN legal order. We then consider the substantive work of the UN and other related organizations. How can (not) the UN contribute to the maintenance of international peace and security? Is it justified to say that the UN is no more than a tool that superpowers manipulate? First of all, how does the UN work? We will address these questions entirely in English.

　Relevant (many) documents will be distributed in the class.

○履修上の注意
Although the "official" language in the class is English, this is NOT a language course. The lecturer will encourage and help students to discuss and explain questions related to the United Nations in English, but will not teach English.

○成績評価方法
Participation in the class discussion: 50%
Final Examination (oral): 50%

You passed the entrance exam for Kobe University. That means that you know English very well. Why don't you, then, try to "use" your fabulous English? And if you use it, why not do so in an academic way?
